Meghan Duval is an American artist, entrepreneur, and educator. In all three sectors, her core interest is in what she calls Everyday Art: the images we see, consume, and generate daily. In the studio that work manifests in her painted and printed grids, her wrestling with the screen shots and encased imagery, her prints and photographs of the “Lovey” character and her Kitchen Basics Lino-cut prints. As an educator she strives to raise awareness of the immense power of art and the way in which art has infiltrated every area of our lives. As an entrepreneur she works to employ the power of art to generate positive and supportive environments for private, corporate and hospitality-based clients.
After graduating cum laude from Princeton University with an AB in Art history and Visual Arts, Meghan had her first solo show at The Pentimenti Gallery in Philadelphia in 1993. While work and family required her to leave her formal practice for many years, she is back in the studio working towards a Master of Arts in Studio Practice for Art Educators at Teachers College Columbia University, New York, NY. She has participated in several group shows including those at SAP, Inc., Bergdorf Goodman, Sotheby’s and Harrah's Casino and her work can be found in private and corporate collections.
Her current studio work draws inspiration from the objects and images she sees on a daily basis. The grid provides the basic structure into which she “paints” with photographs, drawings and prints gathered about the home. These grids are then overpainted with the approving or disapproving hand of the artist. Meghan is also fascinated with screen shots as a new form of image making. Her Kitchen Basics series of Lino-cut prints serve as image antidotes to the public bombardment of complex and powerful imagery impacting daily life.
Professionally, Meghan worked for Sotheby’s from 1994 to 2000, where she was part of a team evaluating the estates of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, William Randolph Hearst, and The Duke and Duchess of Windsor, as well as property belonging to Chase Manhattan Bank and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette amongst others.
In 2007 she started her firm Duval Art Consultancy and has been working with architects, real estate developers, designers, facilities managers, private clients and more to realize the power of art in all aspects of our daily lives. This includes being responsible for curating, cataloging, and the purchasing of individual works and whole collections as well as the design and creation of unique art works for installation.
In addition, Meghan has sustained a working relationship with Floss Barber Inc, Interior Design for many years, and continues to partner with the firm to complete the interior design vision of a wide range of clients as well as serving as part of their Executive Team.
